Shah’s Halal Cambridge Project

SAI Engineers provided full MEP/FP engineering design services for a commercial interior fit-out project in Brookline, featuring an open kitchen area, front-facing take-out space, and back-of-house (BOH) areas including a freezer room, public restroom, and janitor closet. The project was executed within an existing tenant space and required careful coordination to integrate new kitchen HVAC systems with the existing building infrastructure.

Designed an optimized ventilation and kitchen exhaust system, including a commercial kitchen hood and associated make-up air system, to maintain optimum indoor air quality and efficient removal of cooking odors. Designed critical kitchen plumbing utility, including grease waste piping and a grease interceptor sized to meet project demand and applicable code requirements.

The take-out space is served by an existing rooftop unit (RTU). SAI Engineers evaluated the capacity of the existing unit and designed ductwork modifications and rebalanced airflow in accordance with the updated HVAC demand for the space.

Designed fire alarm and emergency lighting systems in full compliance with applicable codes, including ADA-compliant audible and visual notification devices to ensure occupant safety.

Provided a complete fire protection system design, including required modifications, in accordance with NFPA 13 standards.

SAI Engineers offered a coordinated and cost-conscious MEP/FP solution tailored to meet the project requirements while considering the constraints of the existing building infrastructure. Coordination with the landlord ensured all utility requirements were met without requiring additional structural modifications. The design strategically utilized the existing structure to support added roof load from new kitchen make-up air and exhaust systems, resulting in an efficient and practical solution.
